Proposals for broader Police access to the NMPR

Home Office funding to link the PNC (Police National Computer) to the NMPR

Since 2002 Recipero, under contract with the Metropolitan Police Service, has developed and managed the NMPR search engine which allows Law Enforcement to search the huge amount of information held by Recipero in its databases.

Assistant Deputy Commissioner of the Metropolitan Polices and Association of Chief Police Officers' lead on mobile phone crime, Tim Godwin said,

“ The NMPR has been a key driver in tackling mobile phone crime, allowing police to check the current status of a mobile phone through a simple online search. Its use has already contributed to year-on-year reductions in mobile phone crime.”

As the world's largest aggregator of data relating to serial numbered property with over 48 billion individual items of property listed with over 150 billion records of additional information Recipero has been able to return relevant results in over 25% of checks run against its databases
via the NMPR in the last 12 months.

Leading the fight against crime

These results have assisted the Police in a huge range of investigations ranging from pick pocketing to rape and murder and this has now been recognised at the highest levels within Government and the Police. As a result in order to further increase the number of searches being run via the NMPR access to it will now be made available via the PNC (Police National Computer) which will assist officers in requesting checks when out in the field or via the increasing number of hand held devices which are being deployed.

Alan Campbell Home Office Minister said “Linking the NMPR to the Police National Computer will also provide enormous benefits to the fight against mobile phone crime. Currently an average of 25% of searches result in the police obtaining vital information that could result in property being retrieved and cases being solved. I believe that putting this invaluable tool at frontline officer's fingertips will see that number rise further.”
